The Orchard, Pertenhall

Planning permission was obtained for a new house on the edge of Pertenhall village. Under the terms of the National Planning Policy Framework, new dwellings outside of a village envelope may be permitted if considered to be of outstanding or innovative design, raising the standards of design generally in rural areas, significantly enhancing its immediate setting and being sensitive to the defining characteristics of the local area.

The house is designed to sit unobtrusively within its village edge setting, while creating an extraordinary sequence of interior spaces and views that take full advantage of the site’s impressive outlook over the Huntingdonshire claylands valley. Landscape proposals included restoration of a historic orchard on the site, and an innovative reedbed system for grey-water recycling.
